THIS IS GLEN CAMPBELL

Glen Campbell | “Bowling Green” | Ember

Taken from the LP ‘This Is Glen Campbell’ (Ember NR 5046) December 1969

Tony Brandon: ….. So Jimmy Henney from Ember Records rang and said “Would you like to say a few well chosen words about Glen Campbell”.

“Certainly I said”.

“In my opinion Glen has one of the most refreshing vocal styles I’ve heard for ages, and his multi-million record sales throughout the world prove just how wide his appeal is.

‘Star’ is without doubt one of the most mis-used titles in Show Business – but here is an artist who’s really earned it”.

“How about that Jim”

Dave Cash: When I first heard Glen singing a Jim Webb song, I thought, this is one of those rare music marriages that happen about once a year.

Two years ago it was Sonny & Cher; last year Sinatra and Jobim, and, in 1969 – it’s Campbell and Webb.

Mind you, there are a lot of other groovy song writers about, and Glen sings their songs pretty well too.

Listen to this lot!!”

Glen Campbell “Bowling Green”

Alan Freeman: “One of the nicest guys I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting in the business, and when you listen to his records, it shows!!”

Pete Murray: “I interviewed Glen on my old Late Night Show when he was virtually unknown as far as British audiences were concerned.

‘By The Time I Get To Phoenix’ was the record at the time. Glen Campbell had then, and still has, a taste for a good song and interpretation that is second to none.

Ed Stewart: “When I first heard the name Glen Campbell I thought it was one of those magnificent beauty spots in Scotland. I have since discovered it was a voice of magnificent beauty from America”.

‘By The Time I Get To Phoenix’

Dave Lee Travis: “For a singer to make me sit up and take notice, it has to be someone rather special – Glen Campbell is just that sort of person. I’ve been an ardent fan of his ever since he recorded ‘By The Time I Get To Phoenix’, the record that first made the public recognise Glen Campbell.

On this new album, Glen sings a song called ‘Have I Stayed Away Too Long?’ – For me, and I’m sure many other people, he has, but I hope it won’t be too long before we see him here again in England.

For my money and yours, this is a great talent”.
