Taken from the LP ‘Non Stop Hammond Organ’ | (Contour 2870 302) 1973
From euphonium in the band of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst to the swinging delights of the Hammond organ is not the most usual progression in the music business!
But Danny Hodgson did just that. Born in Whitehaven, Cumberland, in 1934, he spent seven years with the R.M.A. band, playing piano as well as the big brass, before joining bandleader George Bradley.
He freelanced with such top outfits as Ken Mackintosh, backed singers like Susan Maughan and Dennis Lotis, broadcast, played cabaret on the Queen Elizabeth II, and ran his own Trio for two years.
Action-packed you might call it!
Danny Hodgson | Cover Version | “There’s A Kind Of Hush”
And Danny is now much in demand as the demonstrator of Hammond organs, par excellence, at Chappells’ famed Music Centre in London’s Bond Street.
Dougie Henning who did the arrangements, and Bill Wayne, are both ex-Miller Men, and their expertise is ideal in this splendid album of what Danny calls ‘Sing-Along-Music’.
line-up:
