Looking at and listening to KAREN YOUNG is a very pleasurable experience, for she is both easy on the eye and the ear.

Born in Dronfield, near Sheffield, on 13th April, 1946, this slim, leggy 24-year-old, with cool blue eyes and long blonde hair, is a very polished singer, who has gained valuable experience during the last six years; first working with groups in the Sheffield area, and subsequently as solo cabaret artiste.

It all began when Karen took note of friends’ encouragement and entered TV’s ‘Find a Singer’ competition. After winning the Derbyshire heat she was sufficiently encouraged to want to pursue her ambition.

Her performances with local groups attracted enough attention for Karen to turn professional, quitting her job as a record-shop assistant.

While singing in a Northern night-club she was seen by The Bachelors, who introduced her to their agent. Since then Karen has been working steadily in top Northern Clubs like Newcastle’s “Dolce Vita” and Batley’s Variety Club, as well as the “Astor” and “Blue Angel” in London; and overseas.

Her single of the Country & Western standard: “NOBODY’S CHILD” (the story of a blind orphan whom no-one will adopt from the orphanage) was released in the summer of 1969, and quickly shot into the hit parade.

After careful thought, and several plays, my LP highlight is soft country-tinged folk number “Ribbon Of Darkness”. The song was written and released by Canadian Gordon Lightfoot as the B-side of a 1965 single on United Artists.
