Taken from the LP ‘Smash Hits ’71’ | (Music For Pleasure MFP 5229) 1971
The series of ‘Hot Hits‘, continued with an end of year round-up with six of the twelve numbers brand new recordings. The compilation was given a slightly different title of ‘Smash Hits ’71’.
Another barely clothed blonde dollybird adorns the front cover and for some bizarre reason she’s holding a perturbed looking baby, while her bikini bottoms are held safe and secure with a giant safety pin. What a lass!
Cover versions include “The Pushbike Song”, by The Mixtures, “The Banner Man”, by Blue Mink, a tongue-in-cheek novelty number “Did You Ever” by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood and “Never Ending Song Of Love”, by Delaney and Bonnie.
I’m rather taken with a decent version of “Hot Love” which reached No. 1 in the British Charts for T. Rex.
