Taken from the LP ‘12 British Hit Singles’ | (Studio 33 10 015) March 1969
I must admit to being rather perplexed at finding this rarity in a Durham charity shop, mainly because it is a Dutch pressing of an untitled LP on the Avenue Records label, the latter released in Britain during March 1969.
Even the UK pressing is very rare and hardly ever turns up, even on eBay. Apparently the distribution of the early Avenue LPs was very poor, hardly ever extending outside of the London area.
All of these recordings were created by the Clive Allan Orchestra & Singers and are extremely accurate and professional sounding remakes, to the point where if you’re not over familiar with the original versions you basically wouldn’t know that these are not the real deal.
Stand-outs are many but I’ll mention Sam & Dave‘s “Soul Sister, Brown Sugar”, The Hollies “Sorry Suzanne”, Don Partridge “Breakfast On Pluto”, The Bee Gees “First Of May”, and Noel Harrison‘s “Windmills Of Your Mind”.
