SOUNDS ORCHESTRAL

Sounds Orchestral | “Baby Elephant Walk” | (World Record Club Ltd)

Taken from the LP ‘Sounds Orchestral play Henry Mancini | (World Record Club Ltd ST 1029) 1968

Sounds Orchestral | “Baby Elephant Walk” | (World Record Club Ltd) | This is a record to play when you’re darning your socks or dismembering the dead tramp in the potting shed that you’ve had rolled up in a carpet for some time.

There is an abundance of jazzy interludes, tinkering piano, strings and everything that made the easy-listening experience so popular back in the sixties.

This is not my scene of course but at least I’ve got another version of “Baby Elephant Walk” to add to my archives. By the way, there is no better take than The Unclaimed‘s from the early eighties, retitled “Phunt Walk.”

The LP got a few lines of review in NME, dated 28th February, 1968. The writer seemed to like it, describing the music as good. Well, it is very good if the Sounds Orchestral are your particular choice of jazz cigarettes.

The original release was on the Pye label (NPL 18202) in a different sleeve, my copy is on the impressive sounding World Record Club Ltd.
