DAVID ESSEX

David Essex | “For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her” | (CBS)

Taken from the LP ‘Rock On’ | (CBS 65823) November 1973

David Essex | “For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her” | (CBS) | This album is an artifact of its time. The title track is one of the iconic classics of 70s Top 40 rock, and the rest of the LP follows suit, as Essex, with the assistance of Jeff Wayne, does his very best to be David Bowie Mk. II.

Along with the title track, “Lamplight” and “Ocean Girl” (Essex originals) set the tone here. Wayne’s production is superb, and is one of the best examples of “ping pong” wide stereo in the modern rock era – you MUST listen to “Rock On” with headphones to get the super-psych effect at maximum.

Truly a classic piece of 70s rock.
