STEVIE WONDER

Stevie Wonder | “Castles In The Sand” | (Tamla Motown)

Taken from the LP ‘Greatest Hits’ | (Tamla Motown STML 11075) 1968

Stevie Wonder | “Castles In The Sand” | (Tamla Motown) | At a special show performance of Motown artists, I had the pleasure of introducing Stevie Wonder, after which the applause was thunderous… Stevie sang “Uptight,” “I Was Made To Love Her,” “I’m Wondering,” “Nothing’s Too Good For My Baby” and “Blowin’ In The Wind,” among others.

Stevie, at the age of 12, enjoyed his first big hit entitled “Fingertips, Part 2,” which was recorded live and is included in this album, as well as the songs mentioned above.

“Fingertips” sold over a million copies. Stevie also set a precedent in the record industry when his “Fingertips” single and LP album of the same name simultaneously reached and held the number one position in the national trade charts for several weeks.

Being a disc jockey, many people ask me what I think makes Stevie Wonder and the Motown Sound so successful. I’ve thought about It and I think I’ve come up with the answer. It is a fact that the combined abilities and talents of taw recording artists, the writers and producers create the Motown Sound.

The reason and the key, it seems to me, is that all of the Motown people have a great love for the music they create, as well as a love for the people around them.

Stevie Wonder, at the age of 17, is certainly regarded as one of this decade’s great entertainers. His destiny is greatness. He possesses boundless energy and a keen sense of humour.

Stevie talks about his blindness freely and without hesitation and considers it a gift from God. I wish all of you could spend as much time with Stevie as I have; and get to know him as I do.

I shall now introduce him to you the way I introduced him on stage that night in Detroit: “Motown, ‘The Sound of Young America,’ is proud to present the sound of a young American, STEVIE WONDER, performing his GREATEST HITS!” (Scott Regen)
