Tracks taken from the LP ‘Super Stereo Film Extravaganza’ | (Hallmark Records SHM 848) 1974
Hugo Walterhalter & his Orchestra | “Super Stereo Film Extravaganza” | (Hallmark) | Hugo Winterhalter has produced and arranged for a host of big musical names including Perry Como and Eddie Fisher and when he hasn’t been working with a vocalist Hugo has been on his own, as conductor for the million-plus hit “Canadian Sunset”.
A versatile and immensely talented man, Winterhalter was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and after spending his early musical years as a sideman he picked up prestige work as an orchestrator with names like Jimmy Dorsey, Claude Thornhill and Count Basie.
This collection of favourite movie themes finds him in ideal musical territory as someone who can take a beautiful melody and invest it with a quality of treatment that must surely please the composer. On this particular album Winterhalter has at his baton such favourites as the theme from “Dr. Zhivago” the haunting Lennon-McCartney song “The Long And Winding Road”, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and a host of other movie theme greats.

It’s no secret that movie themes enhance and bring added promotion to the movie concerned and in the process music lovers and producers of movies have been well pleased with the results.
On this album we’ve tried to take the best movie theme of recent years and give them to a conductor and musicians who really know how to make the very best of the fine melody. And what’s more you don’t need to have seen the movies to appreciate the musical qualities that the various themes possess.
