“Mas Que Nada” taken from the album “The Phase 4 World Of Klaus Wunderlich” on (Decca Records SPA 532) 1977
Klaus Wunderlich | The Phase 4 World Of | (Decca) | This is a UK pressing and a reissue of an album by Klaus Wunderlich released in West Germany during 1969.
Old Klaus, the bearded German rascal who liked nothing better than sneaking off to his garden shed, eating big sausages and playing with his organ, was quite a popular performer in his homeland. He sold millions of records.
They’re also filling up the boxes of a lot of charity shops but I’ve never been interested. That was until I saw this album cover with a slim blond lass presumably wandering around a beach somewhere. Of course it was only natural to point the camera at her while her blouse was wet with the ocean waves.
The record was free from a local community hub so I took it home with me, worth doing so for the LP cover. I had high hopes that Klaus would have gone a bit mental with his Hammond organ on at least one track, but sadly he didn’t have the ambition.
The closest he got was his take on “Mas Que Nada”, which gathers a healthy pace and may have puzzled the resident birds pecking away at his fat balls hanging on a garden bird feeder, within hearing distance from his garden shed.
Klaus died, aged 66, in 1997.
