“In The Grand Way” taken from the album “Spirit” (RCA APLI-1694) August 1976
Exploring John Denver’s 1976 Album ‘Spirit’ | A new album from certain major artists requires little fanfare – “Spirit” is just such an album. John Denver has a track record that stretches from here to Colorado and back again. This album adds another mile to that record.
Denver is at his mellow best on this outing which features titles like “In The Grand Way” and “Polka Dots And Moonbeams” and a well-done cover of the Bob Willis classic, “San Antonio Rose.” A natural for both pop and MOR play – markets where Denver rules the roost. (Billboard, August 1976)

John Denver’s been lucky. He had a ready-made audience slot all prepared to slip into – the one vacated by Peter, Paul and Mary when they decided to go their separate ways a few years ago. Doubtless Denver was already doing well by then, but he couldn’t have been more suited to the role they left.
His songs are straightforward, romantic and don’t step on anyone’s toes. They make pleasant easy listening, either alone or in a cosy party for two. I’d say his audience is fairly straight middle of the road, so chances of a hit single or two from this album would seem certain. (Record Mirror, August 1976)
