Taken from the LP ‘16 Chart Hits – Volume 7’ | (Contour 2870 327) June 1973
It’s the height of Glam Rock and rock and roll bands in Britain so I would expect this compilation of remakes from the Summer of 1973 to be jam-packed with fist-clenching caveman rockers.
Slade‘s “Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me”, T.Rex‘s “The Groover and Suzi Quatro‘s “Can The Can” are here. The singer who’s copying Suzi’s feline-like squeal-on-heat vocal delivery kind of impresses in a dumb way, but probably needed to gorge on more raw meat before going into the studio.
Also of note are the covers “Born To Be With You” by Dave Edmunds, “Sweet Illusion” by Junior Campbell and Paul Simon‘s “Take Me To The Mardi Gras”.
All things considered though I’m going for the strange “Honaloochie Boogie” by Mott The Hoople. The vocal effects elevate the song to hit record status.
