Track taken from the album “Stereo Spectacular – Volume Two” on (Marble Arch MALS 1275) 1969
The London Pops Orchestra | Eloise |(Marble Arch) | Anyone looking for variety in their record collection need look no further than this second volume in the stereo spectacular series. In fact, if it’s possible to satisfy nearly every section of musical taste then this LP surely achieves it on a truly grand scale.
On what other album for instance, would you find the orchestras of Cyril Stapleton and Tony Hatch ranged alongside the Band of the Coldstream Guards and the Black Dyke Mills Band? And as if that in itself doesn’t reflect the true variety of the album content there’s more to come. A beautiful piano solo from Roy Budd, soothing sounds from Sounds Orchestral and a Latin offering from Felix de Ypacarai and his Paraguayans.

The performers themselves are equal only in variety by the tracks they play and a casual glance down the list reveals a pretty mixed bag of familiar titles, that takes in nearly everything from “Blue Tango” right through to a selection of Gilbert and Sullivan before finally winding up with “Gold and Silver Waltz” played by the magnificently named Giant Hooghuy Shaharazad!
The sound itself is, needless to say, superb stereo and adds its own richness to a veritable feast of musical entertainment.
