RECORDED LIVE AT THE PICKWICK 1967
Discover The Peddlers | Live Performance Insights | I have been a DJ now for what seems like ninety-five years. I really thought my days of becoming a fan were over. That was until I met and heard The Peddlers. It was back in November, 1966, when John Irwin, producer of the now defunct `Action’ television show said he had backed a ‘great group’.
Where had I heard those words before? Very blasé I have become. But thank goodness, not too blasé! To use a piratical DJ term, I was ‘knocked out’ by their performance. Since then, I have been a regular Peddlers’ follower at the Pickwick Club.
They’re talented, and they do not compromise in their musical standard. They could of course follow ‘the trend’. Instead, they prefer to set one of their own.
At the time of writing these sleeve notes the boys had not had a hit, but surely this must come. Most cynics feel the group is too sophisticated for the mass market. Sophisticated they are in their music —but from an appreciation point of view, they bridge a gap of fan following from Max Bygraves to Mick Jagger, and you can’t get much farther apart than that!
This album was recorded live at The Pickwick and it captures the unbelievable talent of Roy, Tab and Trevor. Hope you like it as much as I do. (Pete Murray)
