“Woodstock” taken from the LP ‘Made In Britain′ (Readers Digest RDS-6930) 1972
Made In Britain | Various | (Readers Digest) | Since the mid-sixties, the centre of the Popular Music Business has undoubtedly been in the British Isles. Whereas we had been used to looking elsewhere for inspiration and initiative, we now found ourselves with sufficient talent on our doorstop to lead the way.
We produced excellent artists and songwriters, and those songs which did come to us from abroad were often picked up by arrangers and presented in such a way as to give them that unmistakable ‘Swinging England’ touch.
On this record are fourteen such songs. Some are our own, some are arrangements of the best popular songs to come out of the United States, but all are performed by British Artists and so all can be stamped, ‘Made In Britain’.
Alan Tew & his Orchestra – “Woodstock”
Regarded by many as being the greatst “musical ghappening” ever to take place, this mammoth ‘pop’ festival was filmed and presented with smash box-office success in most of the cities of the world.
The theme song was written and recorded by Joni Mitchell, but it was a version of the song by British group Matthew’s Southern Comfort that rocketed up the Hit Parade where it stayed for over ten weeks.
