PETER COVENT BAND

Peter Covent Band | Cover Version | “The Good, The Bad And The Ugly”

Taken from the LP ‘Remember These?′ | (Fontana Special SFL 13201) 1969

Peter Covent Band | Cover Version | “The Good, The Bad And The Ugly” | I actually don’t know where to start with this record. It’s surely one of the squarest things you will have to displeasure of finding. I’m hoping the LP was meant for the ancient, infirm and over-seventies. A squarer record you will never find.

As with the highlighted record last time, this was part of a job lot of half-a-dozen records for a tenner or something like that. And that included the postage and packing, so I’m thinking this particular slab of granny gear owes me 50 pence.

The only cut I can really work with is the opener “The Good, The Bad And The Ugly”, which retains the tune and doesn’t go too overboard ironing out much of the greatness of the original. Not that Peter Covent got anywhere near the original.

The whole of the album sounds like it was recorded somewhere in a European country, probably in a recording studio at the top of a Bavarian mountain. I can picture beer-swilling German blokes frolicking around a well in nothing but Lederhosen and a glint in their eyes.
