MUNGO JERRY - IN THE SUMMERTIME

Mungo Jerry | Cover Version | “In The Summertime”

Taken from the LP ‘The Million Sellers’ | (Decca Eclipse ECS-R2059) November 1970

Major label Decca decided to get in on the wave of copy-cat cover versions with a one-off LP titled ‘The Million Sellers’, recorded by the Chartbusters Orchestra & singers and released on Eclipse.

Decca Eclipse was a mid-price reissue label from Decca Records, active from the early 1960s to the late 1970s/early 1980s. It mostly concentrated on classical music.

Despite it’s mid-price status this is a superb package, heavyweight vinyl, super quiet pressing, with thick card sleeve.

Most of the cover versions are adequate in that the vocalists don’t really try too hard to mimic the original recording artists. A good thing I suppose for those who just want to hear decent interpretations at low cost.
