HOT HITS

The Who | Cover Version | “Relay”

Taken from the LP ‘Hot Hits – Volume 16’ | (Music For Pleasure MFP 50056) January 1973

The series of ‘Hot Hits‘, continued with a brunette dollybird dressed in the latest go go girl rubber diving gear and a knife strapped to her leg in the highly-likely event of getting chased by a group of hairy-arsed blokes. What a lass!

There’s a ‘Not Exchangeable’ note stamped on the back cover, presumably a message for anyone who’d just heard the first track, a dire version of “Blockbuster”. Enough for any 70s kid to rush back to Woolworths for his / her pocket-money back.

Cover versions include “Ball Park Incident”, by Wizzard, “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone”, by the Temptations, a decent rendition of “You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon and interesting bluesy pop in the shape of “Dreidal”, by Don McLean.

“Relay” reached No. 21 in the British Charts for the Who.
