Taken from the LP ‘Dance To The Music′ | (MFP 50193) 1975
Ike & Tina Turner | Cover Version | “River Deep, Mountain High” | This is not a bad album of 60s cover versions actually, and I must say that I was impressed by some of the renditions. The best cuts for me were songs where the lead vocalist was female. The lads didn’t really come up trumps, apart from the singer on “Young Girl.”
The go to track is “River Deep, Mountain High,” generally a song I’m not that keen on, but man . . . . . it’s the winner here for the sheer dynamics of the female vocalist who’s really giving it some. A great believable performance, not just going through the motions, trying to copy Tina Turner. I’m glad she did because she turns it into an absolute raver.
After some research it turns out that professional vocalist and future hit-maker, Tina Charles, wrapped her lungs around this composition.
