Taken from the LP ‘Let’s Go Pop International′ | (Vygson 10157) 197?
Sixties Music | Cover Version | “Higher Ground” | Well, what can I say about this record? Technically speaking I didn’t find this in a Charity or junk shop. Because of this, I shouldn’t really be including it here on my blog. But it’s here anyway, because it was very cheap buy on eBay (probably 50p – bought as a job lot with around five other albums ) and it’s very good!
A group of studio musicians from France calling themselves The Sixties Music (or in this cases, the miss-spelled The Sixting Music. So, it appears that the cover-version kick reached France and this is their version of our budget label pop endurance tests.
There are a couple of really solid recordings on this, I’d say every cut is worthy of your ears, including a better-than-Slade version of “Cos I Luv You”, but then again, I must be one of the only people in England who breaks things in disgust whenever I hear Noddy Holder ‘singing’.
There are a few very obscure songs on this LP, for instance who on earth has heard “Your Hair”, a long-forgotten A-side by Saint-Preux, or “Like A Locomotion” by Left Side. I don’t think these singles were even released in Britain.
My choice to promote the record and create my YouTube video is the truly excellent “Higher Ground”, originally recorded by Stevie Wonder.
